The other day I was driving down a completely rural road (that means in the country for you city people) and seemingly in the middle of nowhere on more than one occasion I passed a sign that is familiar to many of us, "SLOW DOWN! CHILDREN AT PLAY." I was shocked on both occasions to see this sign as there was maybe one farm house in the area that had a front yard larger than most of our neighbourhoods! Are children really playing on the road? And if they are, then why? Do social services know about this? Where are the parents? Where is the responsibility?
I think that this is just one more example of the age that we live in where things have gotten out of control. Minorities often rule our governments agendas, labour unions fight for their employees to have up to 20 or more paid personal days a year and where kids don't know that it's not ok to play on the road.
Shouldn't I be able to expect to go down a country road and not have to be overly concerned about children playing on that road? I get it where your yard is the size of three dog houses and the ball goes on the road at every bad bounce but when your yard is near the size of a football field and a ditch separates you from the dangerous road isn't that a little silly? Just a little? Is anybody with me?
I know it's petty but this morning I just had to process what our world looks like. If I don't outlet here then it's coming through on some poor, innocent soul out "there" and we wouldn't want that to happen in our overly polite world. Guaranteed I'd be the one getting in trouble because I didn't follow the rules.
That's the corn on my cob this morning! Glad to be back on here.
